Acne after 40 is mild to moderate and mainly occurs on the chin area, the lower jaw area and sometimes on the cheeks. Depending on the acne lesions present, there may be black and white spots, black-heads or scarring.
This particular acne is called adult acne. It can appear after the 25th year of age (late) or there can be acne from puberty and not recede but continue to exist after the 25th year (persistent).
Why does it appear?
- It is mainly due to hormonal changes and, as it is now known, stress plays a major role in the development of acne, which is responsible for hormone changes.
- Working conditions play a role in the appearance of adult acne, e.g. working in a wet and warm environment or the use of professional protective equipment (e.g. protective masks).
- Taking some medicines (progesterone contraceptives, antidepressants etc.)
- The incorrect use of cosmetic products, without the advice of an experienced beautician – cosmetologist. Many widely available cosmetic products are not of high quality nor suitable for use by a person who has acne and at the same time needs anti-ageing treatment.
It is mainly observed in women, but if present in men, the symptoms are more pronounced.
Is there a way to deal with it?
At Nefer Beauty Salon & Diet Centre, when dealing with acne after 40, we respect the particular needs of a more mature acne-prone skin and we combine anti-ageing with acne regulation.
It is treated by combining Anti-Ageing & Acne Deep Peelings, which have Salicylic Acid and Lactic Acid as their essential acids. We also apply Photoregeneration (pulsed light with radiofrequencies).
Normally, 6 sessions of Deep Peeling are required on average every 15 – 20 days and 6 – 12 sessions of Photoregeneration for Acne, every week. Also, the daily care at home is very important, using skin cosmetics (before and after treatments).
