The time to go to the beach has finally arrived. We eat a good breakfast and we are ready to go! But after 2-3 hours we are hungry again as it is widely known that the “sea whets our appetite”.
It is obvious that we are not going to choose something heavy so that we will be able to dip again in 1-2 hours’ time. The people who are thoughtful enough will definitely have something brought from home or the baker’s from down the street, while the rest will choose a snack from the canteen or bar. Let’s see what our options are!
From home:
- Fresh fruit
- A mix of dried fruits with salt-free nuts
- Rice or corn crackers
- Whole-meal crackers or biscuits
- Cold home-made sandwich or pita bread with cheese and turkey or boiled turkey sausage
From the baker’s:
- Round bread roll (Thessaloniki-style)
- Whole-meal bread sticks
- Cereal bar
- Currant bun
- Olive bread
From the canteen:
- Plain cheese-turkey toast
- Fruit salad
- Mixed fruit juice
- Yoghurt with honey and fruits
In any case, even if we do not choose any of the above, we try to find a snack that does not contain too much salt and fat so that it will not be too heavy. We make sure we have plenty of cold water with us to avoid dehydration, whether or not we consume coffee or any other drink. For the ones who are well-organised, a portable little fridge is a must-buy for the summer in order to keep food and drinks cold!
